If you've read any of my goals for the last few months, you might know that finishing The Perks of Being a Wallflower has been on my list for quite some time. It's a good book, and it's not like it didn't engage me-I just get busy and forget to sit down with it. I've been packing it around this week to read it, and last night when my thoughts were keeping me awake, so I finished it.
I first learned of this book after reading a few of the quotes from it. It's a very quote-worthy book with some very good insights as you follow the main character through his letters and growing up. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the book:
"So this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad, and trying to figure out how that could be."
I wrote about this one here.
Everywhere I took this book, or talked about this book, people kept telling me how much they loved it. After finishing it last night, I was left a little unsettled and questioning why it was there favorite. But perhaps it is because I (and people I know) can relate slightly to this poor kid's trama-so my own personal experience left me unsettled.
It is beautifully written, and I do believe you should read it if you haven't yet. Now I need to see the movie!

Thanks so much for linking-up! I have not read this yet, but Shanley Belle has, and her copy is here @ home. Shanley thought it was well-written, but it disturbed her (about the aunt). It is on my TBR list for sure, and I want to read it before seeing the movie, too.

ReplyDeleteHrm. The movie looks interesting, but honestly I am worried that reading it will depress me. :/

ReplyDeleteI really have to add that to my list of books to read. I have heard lots of good things. Love that first quote.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it but my son is in the movie, he plays the football coach, he was a coach at the time they filmed at his highschool where he teaches!
