Road Trip Recap Days 1 & 2

Well have you been dying to see my pictures from my roadtrip?
How about hear about the recap?
Here goes...

Monday, July 16th
4:00 AM: Alarm went off.
4:30 AM: Everyone loaded and in the car.
4:45AM: Quick swing by Burger King for breakfast.
4:50AM: On the freeway and headed out of town.
About 8:30AM: Stop in Elko for gas!
It's pretty and Dreary.

About 10:30AM: Stop for a rest stop in Button Point.
WTF is Button Point anyway?  Josh says the restroom had a glory hole.

About Noon: Stop in Reno for food and gas.
Did you know we don't have Jack in the Boxes in Utah?
Julie doesn't think it's impressive, but Josh loves it.

About 5:00PM: Arrive at the hotel in Redding.
It's actually really nice for $40 a night.

We get cleaned up and walk around the corner for dinner.
The restaurant is called Grilla Bites and all of their food is organic.
I get a Tofu & Peanut Sauce stir fry and a beer.
Tangerine by Lost Coast is my new favorite beer ever.

They also had this really cool contraption that we played with.
The golf ball goes along knives and spoons and stuff.

After dinner we wander through a local artist's shop.
Then we walk back to the hotel where Julie and I hop in the pool.
Josh runs to Safeway (which we also don't have) for some beer.

For some reason, everyone staying at the hotel had to watch us swim.
It was kind of creepy. Though we were playing Marco Polo like kids.

After a couple of showers we settled down and watched the new True Blood.
I love that our Cheap Motel had HBO!

Day 2 after the break!
(The best pictures are yet to come!)

Tuesday, July 17
We woke up around 9:00AM and grabbed breakfast before hitting the road again.
Did you know there are a TON of really podunk towns in Northern CA?
Driving through the mountains we kept saying
"Ok, in the next town we'll have a potty break"

We'd check the map and find the next big town shown.
But when we got there, it was a tiny town without even a gas station.
Or grocery store.  We were out of luck.
Like Bridgetown, which was huge on the map but felt very "Wrong Turn"

Finally we made it to the 101 where we stopped in Rio Dell for a break.
We had lunch at the Old 101 Cafe.

We finally got off the 101 in Weott where we found the visitors center.
Then we followed the Avenue of the Giants down to our camp site.

Our campsite was awesome.  The sites were far apart and private.
The only downside was the bathroom being kind of far away.

We set up camp first thing.
Julie and Josh had to blow up their beds.

Then we drove into Myers Flat to see the Shrine Drive Thru Tree.

I was really surprised my car fit through it.

We found a Banana Slug.  It was huge!

These were the only photos I was in on the trip...

The root system is amazing.

And we all played on the cool wood stuff...

And found a wood knot that looks like zombie jesus...

And made friends with Sasquatch on the way out...

Josh is very afraid of Big Foot.
But they became intimate friends after all.

Then we went back to camp for the night.
Everything was so wet and moist.
Did you know that Moss reproduces when it rains?
It was a Moss Orgy in the forest that day.

Then Julie started making a fire...

Which only lasted about a half hour due to how wet everything was...
So we went to bed early that night.

Stay tuned for more recap on the trip tomorrow! :)
