Snow, Puppy Sitting, and Exotic Fruit Make Me Happy

Last week we had a lovely snow storm which made me happy.  Though I wish we'd get more, we didn't have a winter at all this year.

Blizzardy!
I so love a snowy city.

My weekend didn't start out well, as I ended up spending Friday sick and home on the couch-which blows.  I guess it's nice to have a day off once in a while, but I hate feeling like I've wasted it sitting around doing nothing usefull.  I did get myself hooked on Community on Hulu (which makes me happy since it's an awesome show), and I was able to finish up some crocheting (also makes me happy-I still have a ton more to do!), including a baby hat for Beth's order, and a baby hat for my friend Monique who has a little one coming.

Saturday I was feeling a little better, so I made it off to the post office to drop off my swap package for Mamarazzi (see what she sent me HERE) and to pick up a loaf of good bread for a nice french breakfast-with a fancy latte I made myself.  So much yum.

Good bread with homemade pear jelly and my yummy latte.
Most of Saturday I spent resting, but I am happy I managed to get the dishes done (they needed it badly) and then we went out for a good steak for dinner-I was craving meat, so I must need the iron.  After that I didn't feel like going to the bar with everyone for David's going away party since I was sick, but he needed a puppy sitter so I got to spend the evening with Hiro.  I love that puppy!

It took him a while to warm up, but after a good walk he cuddled right up to me.
See him snuggled up on my leg?  SOOOO cute!
I was happy to try the birthday cake Oreos this weekend.  Though you can only have one or two before you're good and done, they are so sweet!

Also happy to have Max over.  Despite the fact that I had originally intended to not have company all weekend, he came down and spent the night and he and I had some great talks on Sunday.  Breakthroughs and deep conversations, how I enjoy them.

Last night Julie, Josh, and I went to Harmons at Emigration Market.  Cute little store, and look at this pretty fruit!

I'm pretty sure the produce guy thought Julie and I were nuts getting excited over the exotic fruit.
We decided on Charimoya, Star Fruit, and Ugli Fruit.

Verdict:  The Charimoya was said to be a cross of Strawberries and Mango.  Basically you cut it in half and scoop out the insides.  Mostly, it tasted like a sweet pine tree to me and was difficult to eat-so I wasn't that impressed.

The Star Fruit wasn't that impressive to me either.  It was kind of bland and the texture was weird.

The Ugli Fruit, on the other hand, was FANTASTIC.  It's said to be a cross between grapefruit and a mandarin, and it was tart and sweet and so delicious.  I really enjoyed it.

*I have something else that is slightly petty, but that is making me completely and utterly happy and thrilled.  Makes me think Karma may actually be real... Sometimes people really do get what they deserve... We'll see...

What is making you happy this week?

  3. It's so lame being sick on weekends. That's what sick days are for!

    That puppy is seriously adorable.

And I saw ugli fruit once, but didn't try it. If I ever see it again, I totally will.

  4. Sounds like goods and bads this weekend, but mostly goods :)

If you're going to be sick, it's best to be on a day where you can curl up under a blanket and watching TV/movies. I;m jealous of your snow. It looks so pretty! It's been so warm in SoCal all "winter".

  7. I miss snow...We didn't get ANY this year. The Texas weather kinda kills this Jersey girl sometimes. I so miss the changing seasons. But we've had beautiful weather, so I can't complain too much.
Hope you are feeling MUCH better!!
I'm totally going to have to get those birthday oreos.

  8. Found you through Mamarazzi... anyway - your winter looks a lot like ours! It's been a sad one! And I totally agree on your thoughts about starfruit - not that impressive. Sounds like you had a great weekend, even if you were under the weather!
