House Hunting, Credit Scores, & Pets...

Photobucket

I Confess...

I'm getting a little into apartment hunting.  When my roommate first announced he wanted to live alone and would be moving out sometime in the future, I was sad about it because he's my best friend.  However, now a few months have passed and I'm starting to get excited for the change.

It's a lot of fun to look at floor plans and apartments and shop around when you have plenty of time.  It's fun to envision your life in those little drawn out lines.

I Confess...

I wish I could buy a condo instead of go rent one, however I'm sure my credit isn't that great.

The roommate's mother works for a major bank and says that I should try anyway since the market is so low right now.  It's a buyer's market, and places that were once going for 300,000 are now going for 85,000.  That's a steal.

I Confess...

I know absolutely nothing about credit scores, or loans, or anything... All I know is that I made some mistakes that have affected my credit when I was younger, and I'm now trying to fix them.  This is all so complicated.

I Confess...

I signed up at mint.com to watch my budget.  I'm still trying to figure the website out, but it seems pretty neat.  Plus I can monitor the whole thing from my iPhone.

I Confess...

I'm excited to find a place that I can have my kitty back! And maybe get a second little one.  I think I've decided not to get anymore rats (although I'm not fully convinced yet... I don't know what to do.) because I can find a place soon where I can have my cat and maybe get another little kitten too!  I miss her!

What are you confessing this week?

  3. My husband and I are looking into buying this year so I've been asking a lot of questions. A real estate agent I've been talking to said that with a credit score over 700 you are most likely to get lower interest rate. I have to made mistakes a few years ago and it's been hard to rebuild my credit, but it is possible. The biggest thing is that you are always always on time with everything you owe a payment to. The more credit lines you have open the worse it looks for you. One or two is good. This includes home and auto as well as credit cards. So if you have like 3 or 4 credit cards, you might want to consider getting rid of 1 or 2 of them. It's taken me a couple of years, but I was able to raise my credit score by 100 points only about 40 more to be really satisfied with it. Good thing my husband has a better credit score. I say go to a bank or credit union and see if you can get pre-approved. This means they will do a soft credit check (this does not hurt your score). However, a hard credit check will cause your score to go down a few points each time so be careful of those!

Wow, sorry this was so long-winded. I hope this helps you in your journey. And good luck finding a place that suits your needs!!

  5. My favorite thing in the world to do is look at houses and apartments!! I'm hoping to buy a house sometime this year- it really is a good time to buy. Regarding mint.com, I have a friend who swears by it- it sounds pretty cool. And your kitty is super cute!

  6. I just checked out mint.com and it looks pretty good. I'm just not sure that I'm ready to commit to getting that serious about money. Thanks for sharing and I hope that you keep us updated on how the budgeting is going.

  7. In terms of condo buying, here's the deal: Unlike past times, you're not going to be able to flip it for a profit. So only buy a place you KNOW you'll be happy living in for the next 5 or so years. Aside from that, yeah, prices continue to be really low.

    I love apartment hunting!

  8. Good Luck with the apartment hunting. It took me two weeks to find one I was ok with. I wish I could have one I loved but that takes way more money then I am willing to fork out!

  10. You need to get your credit score right now. It might be a lot better then you think, or it might not be but you will never know where you stand until you find out. Call your bank and ask them for information, you can get a free credit report once a year.

  12. YAY for house hunting. I hope you really do explore the option of buying, it might be a great move for you! I loved living alone before I got married I had roomates galore but those times when I lived alone (with my puppy) were sooo great! Nothing like not having to clean up or maintain anything for anyone else LOL.
